All Things Dark and Somewhat Scary (For All Hallow's Eve)
Just thought I'd post a few things to make this place a bit more Halloween friendly, hope no one minds.
This one is still up for dispute as to who originally penned it, the great Edgar Allan Poe or Brock Walsh who penned the first verse for one of my all time favorite Halloween movies Hocus Pocus. Either way it's haunting and magical in my book.
Come little children, I’ll take thee away
into a land of Enchantment.
Come little children, the time’s come to play
here in my garden of magic.
Come little children, I'll take thee away
into a land of Enchantment,
Come little children, the time's come to play
here in my garden of Shadows.
Follow sweet children, I'll show thee the way
through all the pain and the Sorrows.
Weep not poor children, for life is this way
Murdering beauty and Passions.
Hush now dear children, it must be this way
to weary of life and Deceptions,
Rest now my children, for soon we'll away
into the calm and the Quiet.
Come little children, I'll take thee away
into a land of Enchantment,
Come little children, the time's come to play
here in my garden of Shadows.
Now, onto something equally as dark but just a smidge more fun.
Ladies and Gentlemen, skinny and stout,
I'll tell you a tale I know nothing about;
The Admission is free, so pay at the door,
Now pull up a chair and sit on the floor.
One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight;
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A blind man came to watch fair play,
A mute man came to shout "Horray!"
A deaf policeman heard the noise and
Came to stop those two dead boys.
He lived on the corner in the middle of the block,
In a two-story house on a vacant lot;
A man with no legs came walking by,
and kicked the lawman in his thigh.
He crashed through a wall without making a sound,
into a dry creek bed and suddenly drowned;
The long black hearse came to cart him away,
But he ran for his life and is still gone today.
I watched from the corner of the big round table,
The only eyewitness to facts of my fable;
But if you doubt my lies are true,
Just ask the blind man, he saw it too.

Re: All Things Dark and Somewhat Scary (For All Hallow's Eve)
Ah! Come Little Children is one of my favourites to sing around Halloween, all because of Hocus Pocus. Though, the voice of Sarah isn't all that wonderful, it's still a hauntingly beautiful song. I wish they had allowed her to sing every other verse, though. The second.. thank you so much for sharing! I haven't read that one in a long while and it just had me laughing quite a lot. I hope it's alright if I share one of my favourite Poe poems! thanks to The Crow, it often reminds me of Hallows Eve. It is quite a lengthy one, so I'll share only the first verse.
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“ ’Tis some visiter,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more."

Oh you're most welcome! The second always gave me a good laugh and I can thank my dear Dad for teaching it to me. I'm head over heels for Poe's work and I also love the movie The Crow so I can't thank you enough for sharing the first verse! I don't mind at all!
